Maybe trumpet, maybe electronics, maybe voice. Squeaking and creaking hiss of air, subfrequent trumpet drone and clicking metallic beats. Pablo Giw is a trumpet performer and sound artist from Cologne, Germany.
Since several years Giw performs as a soloist with his music for trumpet, mutes and voice, touring in Germany and several festivals in Europe and South America. He is currently working on his first solo album, that will bring together his expressive trumpet playing, spoken word lyrics and experimental sound aesthetics.
In 2011 he began to work with drummer Mirek Pyschny and together startet DUS-TI. The duo plays with elements of improv, krautrock, noise and dark jazz. After their debut album '2011', DUS-TI created the record label 'ti-Records' on which the following releases '-EP' and 'DUS-TI EIKO' found a home. The duo performs on festivals and clubs throughout Germany and Europe and was high praised by critics for its live performances ("a duo much greater than the sum of its parts" - New York City Jazz Record) ("The Update of a Kraftwerk trip through outer space" -Bad Alchemy Magazine).
With the experimental percussionist Joss Turnbull, Giw works in the improv and electro acoustic field. The duo released the record 'Tombak/Trumpet' in 2012. Together they travelled to Iran, Turkey, Syria and Lebanon for musical research and field recordings. As a follow up project, they initiated "Tamas" featuring these field recordings and an ensemble of german and arab musicians. The self titled album was released on ti-Records in 2015.
